Why We Switched to Print-on-Demand (and What That Means for You!)

If you’ve been following us for a while, you know that at CanadianArtGifts.com, we’ve always loved sharing a little piece of Canada with our neighbors to the south. Whether it’s a cozy mug, a blanket inspired by Indigenous art, or something that simply celebrates the friendship between Canada and the U.S., our goal has always been to spread warmth culture and connection, one gift at a time.

But lately, we’ve had to make a pretty big change behind the scenes, and we wanted to tell you why.

The Tariff Trouble

Earlier this year, new cross-border tariff regulations came into effect. They now require all tariffs to be paid up front before a parcel even leaves Canada. Unfortunately, there’s no easy or affordable way for small businesses like ours to do that. Canada Post will only accept shipments to the U.S. if you use a fancy (and very expensive) software system that big corporations can afford, but small shops like ours can’t.

That left us in a tricky spot. We didn’t want to stop serving our amazing U.S. friends,  but we also couldn’t keep shipping across the border the way we used to.

Our New Approach: Print-on-Demand

So, we decided to try something new! Instead of keeping inventory in Canada and shipping each order ourselves, we’ve partnered with trusted print providers in the United States.
